Parents and early intervention providers and other professionals gathered June 14 in Tuscaloosa for the 15th Annual Early Intervention Update. The event was sponsored by the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (for Alabama’s Early Intervention System), the Three Rivers Early Intervention District VII Coordinating Council, and Auburn University at Montgomery.

Some 200 participants attended the one-day workshop, which featured sessions on referring your child to a developmental pediatrician; addressing milestones for children with Down Syndrome, Di George Syndrome, and Fragile X; developing language strategies to address communication concerns; and assistive technology for infants and toddlers. Between sessions, participants visited various exhibitors including ADRS, Easter Seals West Alabama, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Tuscaloosa Regional Center, and Columbia Medical equipment.
