State of Alabama Independent Living (SAIL) Program staff gathered Dec. 12 for a daylong session on “person-centered” planning.

All SAIL staff – including nurses, case managers, independent living specialists, and administrative support assistants – were in attendance. The training, developed by SAIL Coordinator Karen Coffey and Rehabilitation Specialist Wanda Brady, focused on Medicaid-mandated changes to requirements regarding person-centered service plans for home and community-based services (HCBS) waiver participants. The changes require that “each individual (waiver participant) will be engaged in the person-centered planning process, which will lead to the development of their person-centered service plan.”
