The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) and the Alabama Department of Mental Health (DMH) honored Project SEARCH employer partners at a luncheon Tuesday, Dec. 2.
The event, held at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Prattville, recognized the contributions of the seven Project SEARCH sites around the state: Baptist Medical Center South, Birmingham-Southern College, Huntsville Hospital, Mobile Infirmary, Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Thomas Hospital, and the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.
Project SEARCH is a one-year internship program for students with disabilities in their last year of high school. It targets students whose goal is competitive employment in the community.
Students participate in up to three internships to explore a variety of career paths. Each student works with a team that includes his or her family, a teacher, job coaches, and a rehabilitation counselor to create an employment goal and to support the student during the transition from school to work.
